Olympic Observations

So there they were, Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, right after their Olympic Beach Volleyball win, and all I could think was how quickly their celebration dance appeared to turn from innocent carousel to "Girls Gone Wild." White bikinis that tend to ride up in back, lots of rain and over-eager cameramen make for some exciting television! So why the hell do the guys who play wear shirts and long shorts?!? Why aren’t they playing in Speedos? We moms get few opportunities to ogle nearly naked men who aren’t our husbands, so bring it on!

Some other observations/concerns:

  1. I need a hot tub. After each incredibly difficult dive, the competitors get to relax. I should be allowed to go tubbing after changing a sick child’s diaper, hosting the play-group or cooking three different meals that my kid won’t eat. And after checking the mail.
  2. I need to take up pole vaulting. Besides looking like so much fun, their bodies are awesome! I want that!
  3. Bonding with athletes is fun. Sometimes you like someone for no particular reason, but Alicia Sacramone and I both went to Brown, both majored in sociology are both from Massachusetts. I’m half Jamaican, so I’ll take credit for the kick-ass runners, too! And I’m in awe of Phelps just like everyone else with a pulse.
  4. Getting lapped sucks. You know how you feel when there’s a sprinter on the next treadmill and you’re gasping at a 5 mph pace? Now imagine the whole world is watching. Ouch.
  5. It is impossible to look cool while playing table tennis. Just restating the obvious here people.

Lastly, if Dara Torres doesn’t convince you not to give away you pre-baby clothes, nothing will.
