It's A Girl!

In August my husband and I were thrilled to welcome to the world our first daughter, Aurora Melody. She exhausted us in the first few weeks, but we seem to be getting a handle on life with a newborn. She's currently got big blue eyes and a sweet, goofy grin, which helps to make occasional crying fits bearable! I won't bore you with the reasons why she's the best baby in the world, but suffice it to say, she's pretty excellent. And so the adventure begins...

James "Lights Out" Toney vs. Samuel "The Nigerian Nightmare" Peter

Summer may be over, but at Showtime Championship Boxing we made sure to send it off with a bang- 12 rounds of serious banging in the ring, actually, as Samuel "The Nigerian Nightmare" Peter defeated James "Lights Out" Toney in a heavyweight title elimination fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was an extremely difficult bout to score: one that I felt was much closer that the 116 -111 tally that was given by two of the judges. As you can see in this picture, James Toney hits HARD. But Sam Peter certainly landed his share of punishing shots as well. Leading up to this fight there had been a lot of trash talk between Toney and Peter's manager, Ivaylo Gotsev (who also manages WBO Heavyweight Champ Sergei Liakhovich) but Toney's promises to destroy the Nigerian Nightmare and send him back to Africa just didn't pan out. He's a legendary fighter with an unbelievably impressive career that spans more than 18 years, but on Sept. 2 James Toney didn't get the decision he was looking for.

Congrats to Sam Peter on the win and kudos too for new IBF Featherweight champ Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero, who absolutely dominated his undercard title fight against Eric "Mighty Mouse" Aiken. It was proof once again that the lighter weight divisions are providing us with some very promising young fighters.

Diego "Chico" Corrales vs. Joel "El Cepillo" Casamayor

In fact, you'll get another chance to see "Lord of the Flys" Vic "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan on Showtime Champion Boxing as he defends his IBF/IBO titles against Glenn "The Filipino Bomber" Donaire on Oct. 7 in Las Vegas. It's part of an incredible double header which features 2006-09-02: Steve Albert and Diego CorralesDiego "Chico" Corrales and Joel "El Cepillo" Casamayor in the main event. Their rubber match is part of Showtime's Free Preview Weekend taking place October 6-9. So you have no excuses about missing what's sure to be two terrific fights. There's no love lost between Corrales and Casamayor - a fact reiterated to me by Diego himself. He called the Guerrero-Aiken fight with Steve & Al on our last telecast, and he let me know how determined he is to win two weeks from now. Previous Corrales - Casamayor match ups have been bloody, brutal affairs. So while it may not be for the squeamish, the 10/7 fight is definitely one for fight fans.

Karyn Bryant and Michael C. HallShowtime's Free Preview Weekend!

Another reason to tune in to Showtime's Free Preview is Michael C. Hall's new show Dexter. We all loved Michael as funeral home director David on Six Feet Under, so you may be happy to hear that he's still surrounded by dead people on his new series. He plays a blood splatter expert who works with the cops in Miami and who happens to moonlight as a serial killer. Sounds pretty dark, I know, but Dexter redeems himself in noble fashion by killing only other killers. Through the course of the show you find yourself rooting for this whack job anti-hero (which is exactly the same reason I love The Shield and Rescue Me). It'll make you question your beliefs about the line between good and evil. Unlike a lot of the schlock on TV, this show entertains and stimulates simultaneously, which is why I feel it is well worth checking out. And I would say that no matter what network it's on! For more on Dexter click here. I caught up with Michael, as well as the guys from Sleeper Cell and Weeds, at the Toney / Peter fight. It was Michael's first prize fight and I gotta tell ya, he was pretty impressed.
